Homemade Old Bay Fries

As a kid, whenever I went out to restaurants with my family my go-to meal was French fries and a house salad. Nothing wrong with either of those things, but after a while it gets pretty tedious. But I always knew which restaurant has the best fries.
Now, I’ve been a pro at making salads my whole life. So I got that recipe down pat. What I wanted to try was making my own fries at home. I know that it’s so easy to get fries at a restaurant and at the grocery store. But making things homemade always seems healthier to me (is it actually? I don’t know but we’re going to pretend that it is.)
I decided to make these old bay fries, ‘cause I’m from the good ole state of Maryland and old bay is everything here. Old bay can really make anything taste better. Unfortunately, because I have PKU I’ve never been able to eat those old bay crabs that Maryland is famous for.
When it comes to making this recipe, it is pretty straightforward. The biggest tip I have for you when making this recipe is to be careful when seasoning the potatoes with olive oil. A little goes a long way on this one. If you use too much the potatoes will be too soggy.

Ingredients:
1 Russet Potato
2 tsp. olive oil
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
¼ tsp. garlic salt
½ tbsp. old bay
¼ tsp. chili powder
Servings per recipe: 2
Serving size: ½ cup (approx. 82g)

Directions:
Peel the potato (optional). Cut the ends off of the potato. Then cut in half, and slice into ¼ inch slices for your French fry.
Soak sliced potatoes in cold water for ½ - 1 hr. Drain the water, then pat the potatoes dry with a paper towel.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Place the potatoes into a mixing bowl. Add the olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic salt, old bay, and chili powder. Blend well.
Place fries on baking sheet then put them into the oven for 15-20 minutes. Flip the fries, then put them back into the oven for another 15-20 minutes.
